Today in Kimberley's History
March 4th

Something happened today in Kimberley's history, but we don't know about it yet...

Walter Sisulu convicted of inciting protest - 1963
Former secretary-general of the African National Congress (ANC), Walter Sisulu, was convicted of having incited a stay-at-home of African workers in protest of the Republic of South Africa Constitution Act of 1961. This incitement was seen as an attempt to further the aims of the ANC. He was sentenced to six years' imprisonment, but was released on bail and placed under a 24-hour house arrest.
