The enemy fired their first shell at a reconnoitering party from their position near Olifantsfontein. Colonel Kekewich has ordered that not more than 15 oxen are to be slaughtered every day. The allowance to be half a pound a head. Flour and meal at the rate of 1 lb a week for each person - or bread in proportion.
