Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh, visits Kimberley – 1995
On 22 March 1995, Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh, came to Kimberley during Queen Elizabeth II's State Visit to South Africa. Prince Philip was welcomed by Northern Cape Premier Manne Dipico, together with other provincial and city dignitaries, including Ethne Papenfus, Speaker of the Northern Cape Parliament, and Kimberley Mayor Herbert Rose.
His programme included Harry Oppenheimer House and the Big Hole Mine Museum before a luncheon at the Kimberley Club. He later appeared on the Club balcony, creating another link with the famous royal visit of 1947. Members of the Galeshewe Choir performed during the occasion.
