1882 – Kimberley's Queen's Hotel Opens Second Wing

On 8 September 1882, Catherine Jardine commissioned a matching second wing to the Queen's Hotel. With its ornate wrought-iron verandas stretching across both buildings, the Queen's Hotel became one of the finest and most recognisable buildings on the Diamond Fields. Catherine Jardine had originally purchased the Queen's Hotel at 10 Stockdale Street on 2 August 1875, beginning a remarkable chapter in Kimberley's history. A full description of the hotel and Catherine is provided on that page.
