Kimberley is famous for more than diamonds and history. Just a short drive from the city lies one of South Africa's newest and most beautiful national parks, where visitors can experience wide-open landscapes, endangered wildlife, and the tranquillity of the Northern Cape bushveld.
Just 75 km south-west of Kimberley (approximately a one-hour drive), Mokala National Park offers an unforgettable wildlife experience without the crowds found in many of South Africa's larger parks.

Experience the Wild Northern Cape
Established by SANParks in 2007, Mokala protects one of the country's most threatened ecosystems and provides a safe refuge for many endangered species. Covering more than 26,000 hectares, the park features rolling hills, open grasslands, rocky outcrops, and beautiful camel thorn woodland.
Unlike many game reserves, Mokala is a peaceful destination where visitors can enjoy leisurely game drives while appreciating the spectacular scenery and abundant birdlife.
Visitor Information
Location: Travel 60km south of Kimberley on the N12.
At a small settlement called Heuningeskloof, turn right. Travel Xkm along the gravel road to reach the entrance to Mokala.

From Chapel Street to Atlas Street
For almost seventy years, the Alexander McGregor Memorial Museum served as Kimberley's principal museum.
By the late 1960s, however, its collections had outgrown the available space. Plans for a purpose-built extension were being considered when the historic Kimberley Sanatorium on Atlas Street became available.
The museum relocated to its new home on 22 November 1976, where it continues today as the McGregor Museum, one of South Africa's leading regional museums. Although the collections moved, the original building remains an important part of Kimberley's heritage and a lasting memorial to Alexander McGregor.
