SAULSPOORT DAM THE MUSICAL is a stunning and stirring production focusing on the hopes, dreams, and aspirations of the passengers, who each boarded with stories and personal ambitions of their own.
In the early hours of 1 May 2003, the rainbow bus, on her voyage from Kimberley to QwaQwa, took a wrong turn, plunged and slowly sank into the cold and dark waters of the Free State. It was one of the most tragic disasters of the 21st century in the country. 51 men and women lost their lives in a watery death beneath the Bethlehem River.
Based on real people, some indulging in holy waters that brought happiness aboard the chanting and singing bus. All innocently unaware of the fate awaiting them. Epic and majestic with moments of heartbreaking intimacy, SAULSPORT DAM captures the lives and tragedy of the hopeful passengers on the bus to the May Day rally celebrations.
